and Billy Walker. Nelson also released records on Liberty and RCA that started his devoted cult following. There Nelson released his "Willingly," a duet with his wife Shirley Collie and "Touch Me" which were both top ten singles. In 1965, Nelson moved record labels to RCA where he joined the group the Grand Ole Opry. Nelson recorded another hit in the '60s with "Bring Me Sunshine" which reached number 13 on the charts.
After having differences with RCA, Nelson moved to Atlantic Records in 1973. Shotgun Willie earned good reviews and Nelson's audience grew larger. "Stay All Night" was the hit that cracked the top 40 and put him back in the lime light. But once again Nelson moved record labels, this time to Columbia Records, to gain complete creative control over his work.
When Nelson released The Red Headed Stranger, a concept album about a preacher, he received rave reviews. "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" was a huge hit unexpectedly because of the single guitar and piano used. After the success of Nelson's work at Colombia, RCA released a compilation album called Wanted: The Outlaws! using older material from Nelson, Tompall Glaser, and Jessi Colter. The compilation album created a series of hits for Nelson yet again with "Good Hearted Women," a duet with singer Waylon Jennings. Nelson continued his success throughout the '70s with a series of Top Ten hits.
Although Nelson has had tremendous success as a country singer, he owed the IRS $16.7 million in back taxes. After releasing several albums Nelson was able to pay back the IRS and put his name back in the spot light. Nelson can be seen on television commercials and movies now. He continues to record music, releasing albums on independent labels.
