Warrant music biography continued...

for their double platinum selling Cherry Pie, the album which characterized their signature sound.

Warrant was formed in 1984 by guitarist Erik Turner and bassist Jerry Dixon who were soon joined by vocalist Adam Shore, guitarist Josh Cohen, and drummer Max Asher. In 1985, the band signed a development deal with A&M Records to record a few demos which the label later declined. Despite the rejection, the band continued to perform in and around Los Angeles. In 1986, Shore and Asher quit to start their own band and were replaced by former Plain Jane members Steven "Sweet" Chamberlain (drums) and Jani Lane (vocals). A few months later Josh Cohen was replaced by Joey Allen completing the official line-up in March of 1987. Following several failed attempts to get a record deal, Warrant was finally signed by Columbia Records in 1988.

Their debut, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich is released in 1989 generating the three hit singles "Heaven", "Sometimes She Cries", and "Down Boys". With the help of several accompanying music videos, the album was eventually certified double platinum. In November, the band joined the Mötley Crüe Dr. Feelgood tour. The follow-up, Cherry Pie, was issued in March 1990 becoming their highest selling album to date. The record featured the Top Ten singles "Cherry Pie", "Uncle Tom's Cabin", and "I Saw Red". The release of the album was followed by a tour with Poison which abruptly ended in 1991 over a feud regarding the two bands' stage room. They proceeded by going on tour with David Lee Roth which was cut short when Jani fell through the stage fracturing several ribs during their fourth performance.

1992 witnessed the release of Dog Eat Dog which received critical praise yet failed to achieve the same level of commercial success as Cherry Pie. The band soon embarked on a European tour playing the Monsters of Rock festival which was headlined by Iron Maiden. Along with the growing popularity of grunge music and decline of glam rock, the band would experience several setbacks during the next few years. In February 1993, Lane suddenly decided to leave Warrant and within a month, the band was dropped by Columbia Records. In June, the band's long-time manager, Tom Hulet, passed away. Jani's departure was later followed by Joey Allen in May 1994 and Steven Sweet in June. They were eventually replaced by guitarist Rick Steier and drummer James Kottak. Lane returned in September of 1994 in time for the band's new record deals with Tom Lipsky of CMC Records and Pony Canyon Records in Japan.

Ultraphobic is issued in March 1995 proving to be an even greater commercial failure than Dog Eat Dog, however the band continued to promote the album touring in Europe and Japan. Kottak eventually left the group in March 1996 as Bobby Borg took over on drums. Belly to Belly, their first self-written and self-produced album, was released soon after. Following a tour opening for Alice Cooper, drummer Borg decided to leave the band in October 1997 and was eventually replaced by Danny Wagner in September 1998. That year also marked the beginning of the Rock Never Stops Tour, which Warrant would also headline in 2003, featuring other 80s rock bands Slaughter, Firehouse, L.A. Guns, and several others. Following numerous line-up changes, Warrant released Under the Influence in 2001, an album featuring mostly covers of other rock bands' songs. The band proceeded by touring with Poison which was cut short when the Bobby Dall of Poison was injured. Warrant's most recent album was released in February 2006 entitled Born Again. The current members are Jaime St. James (vocals), Erik Turner (guitar), Joey Allen (guitar), Jerry Dixon (bass), and Steven Sweet (drums).
