are Jamaican natives, his diverse cultural backgrounds include Portuguese, Chinese, African American and Caucasian. Sean Paul is well known for his distinguished style of singing and is often compared to the early 90's dancehall marvel Super Cat. Sean Paul owns many nicknames such as "Movin Easy", "City Kitty Controller", "S Peezy", and "Di Gal Dem Overall".
As a child, Sean Paul was very interested in sports. He was an avid swimmer and extremely talented at water polo which eventually led him to play for the Jamaican National Team. Despite his notable sport accomplishments, he soon realized his great passion for dancehall music. He showed a particular interest in crafting rhythm tracks and soon became a DJ. He began to write songs thus leading him to develop his apparent style and sound recognized for today.
The dancehall star's debut single "Baby Girl", produced by Jeremy Harding, was released in 1996 and triggered the continuous stream of impressive hits such as "Nah Get No Bly (One More Try)", "Deport Them", "Excite Me", "Infiltrate", and "Hackle Mi".
Sean Paul's first attempt at the American market in 1999 was his collaboration with popular dancehall artist Mr. Vegas on a production for rapper DMX. The finished product was a song entitled "Here Comes the Boom" which appeared on the soundtrack for director Hype Williams' film Belly. The singer also experienced much success that year when his track "Hot Gal" hit the Top Ten on the Billboard rap charts. In 2000, he released his first album on VP Records entitled Stage One. This album included many of Sean Paul's previous hit tracks as well as several new singles.
The second album release was in 2002 with Dutty Rock for which he won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2004. The incredible success of this album is due to its many smash singles such as "Get Busy" which reached the Hot 100, and "Gimme the Light". Dutty Rock eventually sold 6 million copies worldwide. The success of this album allowed Sean Paul to collaborate with several popular artists creating hit singles such as Blu Cantrell's "Breathe" and Beyonce's "Baby Boy".
The Trinity, Paul's third album was released in September of 2005 and includes the # 1 hit "Temperature". The Trinity also won a Billboard music Award in 2005 for Top Selling Reggae Album of the Year.
Sean Paul has an upcoming collaboration with fellow dancehall artist Rihanna on a single entitled "Break it Off" in early July. He is currently working on a fourth album to be released in September of 2006.
