a degree in industrial engineering from University of Los Andes before scoring a job as a TV presenter on the Columbian show Locomotora in 1994. Through the show, she made contacts in the music industry and was able to land a record contract with Universal Latino, which released her debut album, Lágrimas Cálidas, in 2006. The album was an instant hit in Latin America, especially in Colombia, where it spent five weeks at #1. The lead single "No Te Pido Flores" (I'm Not Asking You for Flowers) also spent seven weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard Charts in Latin America, Colombia, Perú, Venezuela, and México, and has received generous airplay on Latin radio in the U.S., catapulting it to #16 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and #1 on Billboard's Tropical chart. The second single from her debut album, "Y Si Te Digo"(And If I Tell You), peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. In December 2008, Fanny released her second album, Dos (Two), with a lead single called Tú No Eres Para Mi" (You Are Not For Me). In the meantime, Lu was nominated for six Latin Grammys for her work on Lagrimas Calidas. Her sophomore album proved equally as successful as her debut outing, becoming a massive hit in Latin America and popular in the US as well. It's clear by now that Fanny Lu will not need that engineering degree.
