The Zen V Plus is creative's answer to the iPod Nano. It includes a lot of functions to play free music for Zen and is very well designed. Because of the price, durability and function of this Player.it looks like a very promising buy.
The Zen V Plus features album art, FM radio, a built in voice recorder, customizable menus, and video playback all in a tiny little MP3 Player. It can also record line in, which is something that you don't see in any players this small, and is a very nice function.
The case is very durable and you can toss it around a lot without and real problems, except for scratching. The screen is plastic, not glass, and therefore very susceptible to getting scratched. Other MP3 player reviews agree that this is one of the biggest downfalls of this device. Other than that, there are no real design flaws. The buttons are laid out very simply and easy to use, and the headphone jack for free downloadable Zen music is in the most logical position, top center.
The audio quality on the Zen V Plus is fairly good, ranging from 20hz to 20,000hz, it puts out to most headphones very clearly, and free zen music downloads sound very nice with a good pair. The EQ has 8 presets and is not customizable, which is disappointing.
The Zen V Plus is controlled with real tactile controls, as opposed to its touch counterparts from the last generation of Creative MP3 players. This makes it very easy to use, with almost all of the control function coming from one multidirectional button. The menu system itself is easy to navigate, and the main screen is customizable.
The battery lasts for the full 15 hours it's rated to under average playback of free music for Zen. All of the functions work as they should, and the audio playback is lag-less. The video however is very crushed because the screen is absolutely tiny. Considering how small it is, they did a good job, but to a certain extant they shouldn't have even tried. It only plays at 15 frames per second, and it is watchable, but it is definitely not a reason to purchase this player.
In some respects it seems that Creative tried to fit a little too much into this tiny little player, but almost all of the functions work perfectly. The video seems like a waste, a waste of memory that could easily be used on more free Zen music downloads. This player is really good for someone on a smaller budget who wants a lot of features, and its also super portable.
