The Go-Go's - Beauty and the Beat Album

The Go-Go's 1990 Beauty and the Beat album shows that the valley girls knew how to dress up their punk heritage with a little pop to survive the assault by New Wave in the 1980s. It also helped to legitimize power pop girl groups that continue to form to this day, though they now have a harder-edged punk sound. Highlights on the album include the eternally cheerful pop ditties, "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat," a tune that droves of teenagers danced to when it was released. It's also got some nice slower tunes in "Fading Fast" and, dare I say, a ballad called "Automatic." My lips are definitely not sealed. This is a great album for any pop/punk lover.
